Utah Championship Announces New Media Partner for 2008
Ticket Revenue to Benefit Primary Children’s Medical Center, Other Local Charities
Salt Lake City (July 17, 2008) – Organizers of the Utah Championship, Utah’s only official PGA TOUR event on the Nationwide Tour, today announced a new media partner as well as a new charitable program associated with event ticket sales.
KSL 5 Television will join the tournament as the official media sponsor, and will also sell tickets to the event through its Web site www.ksl.com. Proceeds from all ticket sales generated through ksl.com will be donated to Primary Children’s Medical Center through a new program launched in association with the PGA TOUR called TICKETS Fore CHARITY. TICKETS Fore CHARITY allows participating charitable organizations to sell tickets to the Utah Championship and keep 100 percent of the proceeds for their charity.
“KSL 5 and Primary Children’s Medical Center are two pillars of our community and we are thrilled to have them associated with the tournament,” said Jeff Robbins, president & CEO of the Utah Sports Commission, host organization of the Utah Championship. “It takes strong support from sponsors, business leaders, elected officials and the community as a whole to keep the tournament, and all the benefits it provides, in our community.”
“KSL 5 is very pleased to be the official media sponsor of the Utah Championship, Utah’s only official PGA TOUR event on the Nationwide Tour. This is a wonderful family event that brings the future stars of the PGA Tour to our community and we are most excited that a majority of the monies raised from tournament ticket sales will benefit the Primary Children’s Medical Center. We look forward to fabulous event in September and we are glad to be a part of it,” stated Greg James, Vice President and General Manager of KSL 5 Television.
Tournament organizers will select a handful of other local charities to participate in the program as well. In order to sell tickets and keep the proceeds, organizations must have non-profit, 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service.
“A key goal of the Utah Championship has always been to positively impact the community, and TICKETS Fore CHARITY will allow us to take that impact to a whole new level,” said Mike Smith, Utah Championship Tournament Director. “Primary Children’s and our other associated local charities are great contributors to our community and we are excited to have them involved.”
The 2008 Utah Championship will take place September 1-7 at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy. As in 2007, the Golf Channel will broadcast this year’s tournament live. More than 20 hours of coverage are currently scheduled, including live coverage all four days.
