2nd Annual Utah Championship "Pink on the Links" Announces New Activities

(June 25, 2013) – The Utah Sports Commission, host organization of the Utah Championship, is proud to partner with the Web.com TOUR, KUTV2, Robert W. Baird & Co., EnergySolutions, 1280 The Zone, Zions Bank and othersponsors in the second annual "Pink on the Links" golf initiative, benefiting Huntsman Cancer Institute, to raise cancer awareness and provide support and research funding through the Utah Championship and the local golf community.

The effort takes place over the next two weeks, where the community is being asked to help fight cancer by donating online and/or attending the Web.com TOUR's Utah Championship being held at Willow Creek Country Club, July 11-14th.

The initiative culminates on Saturday, July 13th, with Mary Nickles, the KUTV2 Morning Team and others serving a hotdog lunch from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The hotdog lunch is free with a paid adult $10 admission and free for kids under 12.

Professional athletes Trevor Lewis, Paul Kruger, Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Heiden and others will be on hand to sign autographs and show their support for the tournament and the "Pink on the Links" fight against cancer. The 18th green will provide golf fans with a new level of excitement this year, as a hole-in-one by a TOUR player will result in a $250,000 donation to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
Willow Creek Country Club will be dressed in pink on Saturday. Several TOUR players will be dressed in pink, the flags on the greens will be pink, pink lemonade and pink cotton candy will be available for purchase and other activities will be going on that day to help drive awareness and raise funds to fight cancer.

The Utah Sports Commission is thrilled to be joining forces with our tournament and community partners to raise funds for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and help promote cancer awareness," said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission.

The Utah Sports Commission Foundation, a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, hosts the Utah Championship Golf Tournament which endeavors to raise funds for local charities. Proceeds raised will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute on behalf of KUTV 2 News anchor and cancer survivor Mary Nickles.

I am excited to be working with all these great partners to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for cancer," said Mary Nickles.

Cancer affects everyone. It is the leading cause of death for Americans under age 85 and the leading disease killer of children. Half of all men and one-third of all women will get cancer in their lifetimes. In Utah, over 10,000 people are diagnosed annually and nearly 3,000 people die of cancer each year.

Like so many families that are touched by cancer, our family knows first-hand the importance of screening and early detection of cancer as a primary way to prevent and cure this dreaded disease. We salute the Utah Sports Commission, KUTV2, and all of the 'Pink on the Links' partners in this critically important endeavor,” said David Huntsman, President & CEO, Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Scott Anderson, president and CEO of Zions Bank said, "We are proud to join forces with the Utah Sports Commission and other supporters of the Utah Championship to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. We are so fortunate to have the Huntsman Cancer Institute right here in our backyard, and the Pink on the Links campaign is an innovative way to utilize the strength of Utah's only PGA TOUR event to help further the life-changing work they do."

"Pink on the Links" partners Robert W. Baird & Co., Smith’s Food & Drug, Pepsi, Majestic Meats and Utah Food Services invite you to join them for lunch and a fun day at Utah’s only official PGA TOUR event to help take a stand against cancer.

“We are very proud to join the fight against breast cancer and help generate awareness of this debilitating disease that affects so many Utah women and their loved ones. By joining 'Pink on the Links' as the event’s sponsor, Robert W. Baird is proud to associate with the Utah Championship and the Web.com TOUR,” said Dean R. Cottle, director for Utah of Robert W. Baird & Co.

The PGA TOUR, its players and tournaments support more than 3,000 charities. These local and national organizations work in a range of areas which affect the lives of millions in the communities where the players live and play.
