If you have a job right now, for many of you it's probably
not your dream job. But what if you had the chance to actually
have your dream job? We met one man who found it.
57-year old Joe George spent his day briskly walking, raking
sand traps, cleaning golf balls and carrying a heavy golf bag
for a guy he hardly knows, and he's loving it! In fact, when
he retires later this year from his regular job, he wants to
do this.
Joe George, Dream Job: Pro Caddie: "I kind of picked up the
game and thought to myself, what other sport where an 18 handicapper,
or someone not that good at golf, can participate at the highest
level. And here it is. And I thought, I'd love to do it."
Joe first got the opportunity to caddie last April, when the
Today Show had a contest asking viewers to tell them about
their dream job.
Joe George: "They said, ‘Send in an e-mail tell us what
you'd like to do.' I did, and I couldn't believe that they
selected me; 10,000 e-mails, they selected four people, and
they gave me Sergio Garcia. It was great!"
Before carrying Sergio's bag, Joe George got some advice from
other pro caddies on the various do's and don't on the course.
He even hired a personal trainer to get in shape.
Joe is still persuing his dream job. He's caddying at the
Energy Solutions golf tournament at Willow Creek Country Club.
He's carrying clubs for Brad Adamonis, who's playing on the
Nationwide Golf Tour. Brad doesn't have a regular caddie right
now, so when he was asked if he'd like to help fulfill a dream,
he said sure.
After today's first round, how did Joe do?
Brad Adamonis, Nationwide Tour Player: "So I think he's learning
a little bit each day. Couple of little things here and there,
makes a difference, when you're playing" Q-but he's got what
it takes to do this? "Oh yeah, definitely."
For Joe, this is a one-shot deal. Next week Brad will have
a new regular caddie; Joe, will be looking for another player.
Joe George: No guarantees after this. I am bagless after this."
Bagless, maybe, but for Joe George, he's at least had a taste
of his dream job!
Joe is keeping his fingers crossed that Brad plays well and
makes the cut tomorrow, because then he'll be able to caddie
for the entire four day tournament.
