Amount
of funds raised for charity announced
The
Energy Solutions Utah Classic, played annually at Willow
Creek Country Club, generated nearly $120,000 in total charitable
contributions, which will be given to seven different community
groups.
"This is truly a very special day at a special time of the
year that directly reflects the commitment of the PGA Tour and our
sponsors in giving back to our community in the form of charitable
contributions" said Evan Byers, executive tournament director
for the Energy Solutions Utah Classic.
"Thanks to all of our sponsors, and especially Envirocare
of Utah, we have been able to touch the lives of many local
kids, and today make a significant impact through these charitable
donations to our deserving charities."
Receiving charity donations will be the Utah Boys Ranch, the Bringing
Hope to Single Moms Foundation, the YWCA, the Children's Center,
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, Easter Seals and Cornerstone Counseling.
LOW AMATEUR: University of Utah sophomore Casey
Fowles of Delta captured low amateur honors in the $65,000
Nevada Open at the Palms and Oasis Golf Clubs in Mesquite, Nev.
Fowles shot rounds of 70-67-69 to finish at 206 for the
tournament, just five strokes behind Kevin Stadler,
who won the $10,000 first prize with a total of 201.
Utah professional Brett Wayment finished in a tie
for third at 205 and won $2,900. Wayment shot a final-round of 66
after two rounds of 69. His 66 was the low score for the day on
the par-71 Palms course.
St. George resident Brad Sutterfield began the
day in third place, just three strokes off the pace but failed to
gain any ground when he managed only two birdies and three bogeys
in his final round, finishing with a 72 at 207 in a tie for 12th.
