Utah Championship Announces New Date for 2011
Utah Championship Announces Date Change for 2011Salt Lake City (Dec. 16, 2010) – Organizers of the Utah Championship, Utah’s only official PGA TOUR event on the Nationwide Tour, announced today new dates for next year’s tournament. The 2011 tournament will be held at Willow Creek Country Club July 25-31, 2011.
For the past several years the tournament has been held the week of Labor Day in early September.
“Having the tournament in July will position the Utah Championship very favorably into the heart of the golf season and should allow more fans to enjoy world-class golf in Utah,” said Jeff Robbins, President and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. “Being able to showcase the tournament on the Golf Channel in July will also be great exposure for Utah.”
“We think the move to July will be positive for both the tournament and our spectators,” added Tournament Director Mike Smith. “Utah’s weather can be unpredictable in September, and we’ve also been in the position of competing with college football games and kids back in school. The move to July should alleviate some of these concerns.”
The Nationwide Tour’s 22nd season will feature 26 events in 16 states, plus three stops in Latin America. The season begins in February and will conclude at the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island Club where “the 25 leading money winners will be awarded their PGA TOUR cards for 2012 at the conclusion of the Championship on Sunday, October 30th.
“With alumni now having 288 wins and occupying more than two out of every three spots on the PGA TOUR, there is no question the Nationwide Tour is having a dramatic impact on the landscape of golf,” said Nationwide Tour president Bill Calfee. “The Nationwide Tour continues to grow in stature, and 2010 was our best year ever. I invite you to follow our more than 200 members as they pursue one of golf’s most intrinsic and compelling storylines, the season-long quest for a PGA TOUR card.”
